Honeywell and Repsol Join Forces for Greener Fuels
AutoControl GlobalAutoControl Global August 23, 2024In a promising collaboration, Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) and Repsol have embarked on a mission to revolutionize renewable fuel production. Their shared goal? To create innovative pathways for biofuels and circular materials. Let’s dive into the details of this exciting partnership.
A Sustainable Vision
Repsol, a Spanish energy and petrochemicals giant, and Honeywell, a global leader in sustainable technologies, are teaming up to tackle carbon emissions head-on. Their focus? Transforming waste materials—think fats, oils, greases, biomass, and solids—into valuable biofuels and advanced chemicals. But that’s not all. They’re also exploring how to seamlessly integrate these methods into Repsol’s existing facilities.
The Power of Collaboration
Honeywell’s cutting-edge technologies will play a pivotal role. By leveraging existing refinery assets, they aim to produce a variety of biofuels, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel. It’s a win-win: reducing emissions while maximizing refinery efficiency. Bryan Glover, Chief Growth Officer and CTO of Honeywell Energy and Sustainability Solutions, sums it up: “We’re here to provide innovative solutions that help our customers and stakeholders fight climate change.”
Plastic Recycling Revolution
But wait, there’s more! Honeywell’s UpCycle Process Technology is turning the tide on plastic waste. Imagine a world where nearly 90% of plastics can be recycled. This technology breathes new life into diverse plastics—colored, flexible, multilayered—by transforming them into Honeywell Recycled Polymer Feedstock. It’s a game-changer, especially when combined with other recycling processes and smart collection methods.
Repsol’s Green Commitment
Berta Cabello, Repsol’s Director of Renewable Fuels, emphasizes the importance of their joint efforts: “Renewable fuels and plastics recycling are crucial to Repsol’s net-zero emissions commitment by 2050.” Their collaboration with Honeywell is a bold step toward becoming a benchmark in renewable fuels and hydrogen production by 2030.
A History of Success
This isn’t their first dance. Repsol and Honeywell have a track record of fruitful cooperation—licensing, petrochemical development, troubleshooting, and more. Back in 2023, Repsol chose Honeywell’s Ecofining™ technology to turn used cooking oil and waste animal fat into renewable diesel. Now, they’re taking it up a notch with this ambitious project.
